  • 2018-12-12: Universe@Home, Patreon

As you know, I'm working on Universe@Home for some years now. I was also one of creators and admins of Radioactive@Home project and few another BOINC projects.
Unfortunately, for long time I'm working on this project voluntarily as is no funds on it to my role.
Because of this, I will ask you for support on my Patreon profile.

  • 2018-12-06: GoofyxGrid@Home NCI, Crush on database server

After one week of work on goofyxDB (database server) I have really SNAFU :(
Yesterday on the afternoon 2x320gb wd black RAID1 disk died (both disk are physically dead, no spin on after connected in another hardware). Problem is that this raid1 have bin logs for databases and after raid died I lost 70% the most important tables on ggNCI. After more than 12-15 hours of trying to repair that I am restoring database from backup from 27.11.2018. Some credits will be lost but I will try to make some recompensation for it for crunchers.
I am really sorry for that situation, butin that case it was independent of me

  • 2018-12-01: RakeSearch, November 2018 totals!

    Dear participants!

About 4.5% of tasks were processed during November making 43.7% of search space complete. 4365 results with "permutational pairs" where found by 170 most successful crunchers and each of them can view their results by link Results with ODLS pairs from account page.

Also, we want to remind about the Crunchers poll about Distributed Computing projects - after feedback from participants it has undergone modifications.

Each of the lucky crunchers, listed below (that found at least 1 ODLS pair during the month), as usual, receive a new badge - R

  • 2018-11-30: GPUGRID, WU: IAP

    Dears,

I am sending a new experiment on the short queue targeting inhibitor of apoptosis proteins.

Inhibitor of apoptosis proteins (IAPs) constitute a family of conserved protein in the apoptotic pathway. In other words, they prevent the "programmed death" of cells; therefore, their over-expression enhances survival and resistance to anticancer agents. Small molecules (smac mimetics, SM), similar to the natural antagonist of IAPs, are a first generation of drugs which have been developed to sensitize cells to apoptosis. Although they are currently used in cancer therapy, there are some cases in which the SM-mediated degradation brings to the non canonical activation of NFkb and so to the expression of CIAP2 gene, suppressing TNF-alpha killing; in other words, resistance may arise to SM. In this set of simulations we are testing some mechanisms with which apoptosis in resistant cancer cells may be restored.

    The WUs are tagged "*IAP*".

    Thanks!

  • 2018-11-19: LHC@Home, Pausing submission of LHCb Applications

    Dear BOINC Volunteers,

LHCb has been very grateful to the BOINC community in the past years for their support and provisioning of computing resources to run LHCb simulation jobs. Since the start of the service for LHCb you have provided computing resources that allowed us to execute a fantastic amount of 3.1 Million successful jobs which simulated 142'740'087 events. This work considerably contributed to the work of the experiment. Many thanks to you all !!!

Despite this success we have also observed that the work in connection to BOINC operations has grown in the past within the LHCb computing project and after internal discussions we have decided to pause the operations of the service and therefore not to run LHCb applications via BOINC for the time being with the possibility to re-open the service in the future.

Please note that the possibility to contribute computing resources to other BOINC projects stays untouched by this decision and we would like to encourage you to continue supporting also the other projects represented via the LHC@home BOINC service.

For now I would like to re-state my thanks to you, the BOINC community, for your support.

    Best regards

    Dr. Stefan Roiser
    LHCb Computing Project Leader
    stefan.roiser@cern.ch

  • 2018-11-18: SETI@Home, Fall/Winter 2018 Funding Drive has started.

We've started our 2018 funding drive. Many of you have probably received our email penned by one of our undergraduate researchers. If you can't wait, you can read yours here.

Because we're not yet fully GDPR compliant, we're not sending emails to anyone with an EU/EAA email addresses, anyone who listed an EU/EAA country, or anyone who listed "International" as their country. And, of course, anyone who has opted out of our emails won't get them.

    Thanks for your support!

  • 2018-11-17: PrimeGrid, Leonids Shower Challenge

From November 17th, 2018 Primegrid will be running an AP27 Challenge to celebrate the Leonid Meteor Shower. The Leonids are a prolific meteor shower associated with the comet Tempel?Tuttle. The Leonids get their name from the location of their radiant in the constellation Leo: the meteors appear to radiate from that point in the sky.

The Challenge starts at 12:00 UTC and ends 3 days later on 20th November at 12:00 UTC. Work units from the AP27 project, which are downloaded and completed during the challenge will count towards your challenge score.

An AP26 was found just before the start of the Challenge. Can we find an AP27?

For more information and discussion, please head over to the official challenge thread: http://www.primegrid.com/forum_thread.php?id=8268

    Good luck!

  • 2018-11-17: SRBase, SRBase - 4 years review

The project is now more working on a recommended bases list included by the project goals.

  • 2018-11-15: Cosmology@Home, Preparation for a server upgrade

    Dear users,

Over the next couple of weeks, we will be moving the Cosmology@Home server to a newer machine. No action is needed from you, and we hope to do so with minimal down time. This will solve lots of the work generation and validation problems the site has had over the last several months. It will also set us up to debut some new science applications which we have been working on and thinking about.

For now, we are letting the work queue get emptied out. Once that is done (it already is for camb_legacy), we will move forward and keep you updated.

    Thanks for your continued support!

  • 2018-11-14: LHCathome-dev, Dev server updated
