Comments on the following newsitem

The following project require you to consent to exporting your statistics to stats sites. If you do not do so your data will be removed from the export and in accordance with the GDPR all your data from these projects will be removed from BOINCstats as well. This data can’t be recovered!

You need to consent before they enforce the setting in the export!

  • Albert@home *
  • Einstein@Home *
  • LHC@Home *
  • LHCathome-dev *
  • NumberFields@home *
  • VGTU *
  • World Community Grid *
  • WUProp@Home

*Already enforced

Project owners: Please let me know in time when you add this setting so I can add your project to this list!

Users: you do not have to post here when you changed these settings at a project. Your stats will then be exported by the project and imported by BOINCstats automatically. No manual action here is required so nobody needs to know you changed the settings.

You can add LHCathome-dev to the list that requires consent.

Seems like WGC is opt out, so doesn't require you to do anything, LHC is opt in.

I found it at Einstein@Home, but where is this settings in WCG?
Would it possible to use BAM to set this option in all projects to "yes"?

Just below the middle of the page you see: Choose to display or hide your data

Currently no, probably never, due to the GDPR.

It looks like WUProp might be "opt out". This option in my preferences is checked and I took no action to do it, that I can remember:

  • Should WUProp@Home show app hours statistics on your account data page and export statistics?

Well, I thought I changed it earlier today because it wasn't checked. OTOH the older I get the confuseder I am.

Happens to me all the time! So, I could very well be the one who's mistaken... Regardless, thanks for pointing it out -- always good to double-check before data gets lost.

I've been through every single preferences page on LHC@home and didn't see anything about exporting data. Anyone know where it is?

From your user account page -> Preferences -> Preferences for this project -> LHC@Home preferences -> Primary (default) preferences:

  • Resource share
  • Use CPU
  • Use ATI GPU
  • Run test applications?
  • Is it OK for LHC@home and your team (if any) to email you?
  • Emails will be sent from Admin.Lhcathome@cern.ch; make sure your spam filter accepts this address.
  • Should LHC@home show your computers on its web site?
  • General terms-of-use for this BOINC project.
  • Do you consent to exporting your data to BOINC statistics aggregation Web sites?

It was not checked for me so it's opt-in. I'll add it to the list. Not enforced though.

I'm fairly sure that for wuprop it's only the export of the additional app data for hours that the checkbox is for and not the standard boinc exports like the others.

@Willy, what's happening when the import file is suddenly much bigger than the previous one

That just works. Except that the returning users have lost their LHC history.

Not seeing it. "Should Distributed Hardware Evolution Project show your computers on its web site?" is not the GDPR checkbox.

This is absolutely ridiculous on so many levels.

I have removed my team from the following projects:
Albert@home *
Einstein@Home *
LHC@Home *
LHCathome-dev *
World Community Grid *
WUProp@Home

We will never contribute to European projects again either in funding or in computations.

You have the ability to delete your account for each project.
Please note that this cannot be undone once it is completed.

The process works as follows:

 - Enter in your password after you pushed the delete account link from your account home page and click on the "Send Confirmation Email" button

- You will receive an email which contains a link. Click on that link

- On the page displayed, you will need to re-enter your password and then click "Delete Account"

- Your account will then be immediately deleted

Be sure you are using a valid e-mail address.
When you have to change your e-mail address, you have to wait 7 days before 'delete account' is enabled again.

There are quite a few other European projects.
And WCG isn't European.
The projects might have acted without need, but this way they can be certain not to get into trouble.
Bummer is, people not contributing anymore because of some stupid statistics not being nice'n'easy anymore, won't do anything about the possibly existing underlying problem with the GDPR, they will just not support science.
