Huuuu hello?!

I'm a little bit angry, nervous, astonish, anxious, amazed, whatever: I loss more than 4.500.000 credits in 24h since... Since when? Since I attached for the first time to SETI yesterday... Going from 16xx th place to 6xxx...

What happend? I've searched around, I don't notice other users with similar problem...

Could my account being hacked? Is a Boinc account hackable? How?

I'm using BAM since a long time, I never enter my user/password id elsewhere than in Boincmgr or BAM, so what?

Is is temporary?

Any clue will be awesome!

Regards

Hi
Your missing creds are here. Its called a split cpid , its quite common and not a problem you can read about it here. As long as you have used the same email address on all your accounts at the projects it will resolve its self in a day or two.

If you do a User search for your own user name you'll see what I mean.

Hi,
Thx for this prompt reply.

OK. I wasn't sure, thanx to confirm. I didn't think to this at all, because it's have been a real long time since using Bam that I didn't have a split cpid... So, I guess this is due to the recent Seti attachment, but strange.

It's the case, I attach to projects only through Bam.

I see!

Thx a lot for pointing this back to my mind! More fear than hurts!
Regards.

Hi, RvP_LaN

hmm... when you attach to a new project, that particular proyect generates a temporary CPid for you until it's database connects to other projects and checks if your email has already a CPid asigned... if so, that project will change the temporary one for your CPid used on every other project

But on this case, it seems *other* projects thought your temporary CPid at Seti was the main one

Anyway, as m4rtyn said, it'll be ok in a couple of days, when projects decide what CPid use

Hello,

Yes. You're right, this is what happend, but not so , more !!!
as m4rtyn said, it'll be ok in a couple of days, when projects decide what CPid use
Except that all projects have "decided" that Seti new CPID was the correct one... Guess this is due to the mega ultra power of this old mighty project, father of all distributed computing!!!

But now it has been 8 days waiting for a return to normal... Should I wait longer, or this particular CPID change will never go back to normal?

I've read the FAQ M4rtyn pointed out: I re-attached to projects, I set a new host which doesn't crunch but has all projects I've been participate in. Wait for all projects to sync the CPID... They all go to the new one!!! I also did have to wait Einstein@Home to come back. Thus, some projects don't respond: Sudoku and SHA. Seems that Tugraz University is down? Some projects did the CPID sync, but still stay in the old CPID account: Proteins, Rectilinear Crossing. Should I go to my account on these projects and manually change the CPID? But wont this causes more disturbances?!

I've read the different posts about "retired projects", but actually, I'm not in this case:
-- On Bam, my login point to the original CPID, on which I got the last (not responding) projects and the retired ones.
-- If I go to "sync retired projects", I'm not able to use that option (grayed) because for these retired project, my account and my "old" CPID are correct...

So, I've read about "renew CPID" option, but now that all active project aren't into my login/account, what will be the effect? It's not clear at all for me , and it is mentioned to not use this option lightly .

In my mind, before eventually renewing the CPID, I would have to merge the two RvP_LaN accounts. Is it possible? Or is there another procedure to execute?

Regards.

As long as you are using the same name/email across all your projects, renewing your CPID should bring everything back together.

OK. Following your advice, I've renewed my CPID and successfully recovered almost all my credits.
The missing ones are still linked to my old CPID
They are those for which servers are down. As I don't know if these servers/projects will be back someday, is there some procedure to manage to recover these credits?

Thx

If you expand "BOINCstats" under your BAM menu, you will see "Sync retired projects" that will allow you to combine the stats for Artificial Intelligence, which is the only "retired" project under your old CPID. As I'm not familiar with the status of the other projects, you'll have to either wait for them to come back online, or until they are declared "retired" by BAM/BOINCstats. This usually happens when it is moderately certain that those projects will not be making a comeback anytime soon.

Huuu... Call me dumb, I don't care Buuuut, as this is now my old cpid, I'm not able to "log in" anymore under this account and perform the "sync retired project". Could I? BoincStats option menu is only valid when you're logged in. If I go to the stat page of the old cpid, I can only consult data not have any action on them.

OK. Get that.

You do the "sync retired projects" from the account that has your current CPID. It will find your Artificial Intelligence stats under the old CPID (based on user name, I think) and then link it to your current CPID.

I understand the change because of the CPIDs, but to my opinion, the big (upwards) score change shouldn´t appear in the "best day" results.

How could it not? You can always delete single days from that list.

I don't know. I never tried it :-)

But either way, what would be the algorithm to prevent adding the value to the best five days?

I've got a somewhat similar problem, but different; and largely I had come to the conclusion not much could be done (well I could try temporarily setting everything to the old email address, then the new one again; though any projects (like pirates) that does a confirmation email, will be impossible. I haven't had an email address with the old ISP for over a year now, and there's no email forwarded. Two projects are simply impossible to update any settings with, namely Tanpaku and proteinPredictor, both of which represent the bulk of lost credit. I pretty much figured not much could be done. This account doesn't cover anything from that far back.

Anyhow, this is me

http://boincstats.com/search/all_projects.php?cpid=112a133218daac331b920ac95d5da9ab

WCG isn't retired, but does present a different problem; namely if one runs into password troubles on an old account. Most projects allow one to use the account key to get back in, but they don't; and just go to reset the password I'm gathering, at which point if one eventually does remember what it might have been, it's reset and lost, so... But that's just 2k credits, not the 50+k of the other 2 projects. Well still don't know anything can be done; and if it can't will just have to crunch them out elsewhere to try to make up for lost ground

If you don't have your login information (username, email or account key) I think you're pretty much SOL.

Nah, on WCG, I do have the account key from an old email, but WCG is different from other projects in that there seems to be no way to attach to one's account using it, for purposes of then changing the password, then email addy after. It's like there, but non-useable....

Still, that's just 2k credits, the Tanpaku and predictor credits are about 55,000 credits, but projects are down so updating through them, is well... Even if one could update predictor however, they as I remember stopped xml stat exports before their servers died anyhow. There's reasons they became a dead project IMO; not all of which needs to be brought up again. As to Tanpaku (most of the lost credits, their servers just ran into problems, and then were left off following). But other then that, don't believe they ever ran into the sort of issues predictor did in the end.

Outside that however, I have been able to update my other projects to the current email address (some were on an interum one) since having moved.

Yeah, WCG uses its own web interface and does a bunch of other things that differ from the stock BOINC package.

For the retired projects, have you tried My BAM menu > BOINCstats > Sync retired projects?

It just shows up as "no retired projects on this account"; because it has no link between my old CPID and the new one. As such, it doesn't see both CPID's as being part and parcel to the same individual cruncher... Unless I could force everything to sync on the old CPID, then push it forward again, under the current existent email address and all, not sure I could get it to all sync up. Also, tbh, I think the old password (created without BAM's existent password requirements in place, wouldn't bet settable. The big problem however, is that some projects require a confirmation email, and the old email address; well I moved, it was to my old DSL account, and I don't have service with the old ISP, hence the account is since dead.

There's just no way to go back, and... I'd looked for some other place to tell BAM "this CPID is an old one of mine, import the retired projects from there", but there seem no way to link up retired projects on an old CPID to what could be ported under a new CPID using a non-current email address.

Syncing retired projects doesn't work based on matching CPID's the whole point is to set the CPID of the retired project to match your new one. If they would match already, there would be no need.

What is required is that the you have the retired project in your BAM! portfolio -> when the project was still alive, you should have added it to BAM!. It's the only way to know for sure that it is really your account in that retired project.

Please do not PM, IM or email me for support (they will go unread/ignored). Use the forum for support.

Here's an interesting one, which chalks up to a "go figure". For kicks and giggles, I checked to see if predictor was having another period of being back on the web (they've done this a bit in the past, without WUs and the like), and they do, at

http://predictor.chem.lsa.umich.edu/home.php

Well anyhow, I logged into the account, and even with the old email address, username, and all they did show the current CPID, not the CPID which was available to them at the time the stats were taken, or even I would imagine when they're servers went down before. They got it somehow, and as I reset it this year to get things to sync about a month ago...; but of course even though their site picked it up from somewhere, because they long since stopped sending out XML updates... I did do an attach after, just to make it all go; but was unattached before, as to best of my knowledge their site had been down for some time.

Well, I just changed the registered email address and such to the current today, but given they're really retired (they don't exactly say this), I doubt it would provide any useful info. Tainpaku however, the servers are off period, so there's no possibility to update anything there as such. If predictor didn't get all anal about XML updates prior to their project dieing though, that one would have at least sorted.
