Hi,

Will this project be available on BAM any time soon? Also, the project is 'cracking encrypted 512-bit Operating System signing keys for Texas Instruments' programmable calculators'. Is this legal?

Thanks,
Suneet

Where did you find that that's what it's doing? Because, then, the right question is: is it moral?

TIA

Or would you be confusing RSALS with NFS, which is not exactly trying to crack TI calculators keys?

Check this link - http://distributedcomputing.info/ap-crypto.html (scroll towards the end of the page).
Also, I translated the link given below in the thread (http://www.rechenkraft.net/wiki/index.php?title=RSA_Lattice_Siever_%282.0%29) into English using Google Language Tools.

I agree on morality being an issue here.

Thanks,
Suneet

On a side note, I really dislike surreptitious projects.

First:
XXX is a research project that uses Internet-connected computers to do research in XXX. You can participate by downloading and running a free program on your computer.

XXX is based at [describe your institution, with link to web page]

* [Link to page describing your research in detail]
* [Link to page listing project personnel, and an email address]
...

And then:
Preventive action

No more progress will be posted here.

Thanks for the pointers, Suneet.

No description, no Q&A and no forum is definitely a big red flag...

Lesson learned, read the forum closely before joining new projects. I've detached from NFS, sorry I didn't look before I leaped.

Looks like I also confused RSALS with NFS. I'll be rejoing NFS and help with the current team challenge.

Not much in the forum. Did the project admin gave permission to add it here?
Please do not PM, IM or email me for support (they will go unread/ignored). Use the forum for support.

Or should a project whose goal is to crack an encryption key be supported by BAM?

Sure, BAM is yours and you're free to do with it however you please. Yet...

I've said it before, and I'll say it again. IMO, stat sites should be completely neutral, listing all projects that export stats. Leave it up to the users to decide right and wrong. My opinion.

Fine, but BAM is more than a stats site, but also an account manager site.

But that still leaves the option to decide which projects one wishes to crunch for, right?

Not in some people eye's, your supposed to only run what they deem worthy ...

I run them all, I don't care if their counting Cow Pies in the Cow Pasture, I'll still run it up to a Point anyway ... I know that's a stick in the eye of the Holier than you crowd but I don't care, they can run what they want to run & I'll run what I want to run because I'm the one paying the Utility Bills at my House and until that changes I'll keep running what I want to run ...
