Hey everybody!

I've (by mistake) changed the global computing preferences in one project, which wasn't too smart. Now everytime the host connects to that project, it uses these preferences (for all projects). When it connects to BAM, it uses those preferences. And back and forth and back and forth...

Of course I want to configure BOINC only via BAM. How can I delete or reset the preferences made in the project?

TIA,
Carter

Make a (any) change in the pref here in BAM!. This wil make the BAM! one the newest one and it will be send to the projects as well.
Please do not PM, IM or email me for support (they will go unread/ignored). Use the forum for support.

Thanks a lot for the fast response (and generally for your great work here...)! I just made the changes.

Okay, seems I've messed up something else...
I made the changes to my BAM-preferences. I've set them as default preference.
At the host details, the preferences are selected (Venue: New: 2009-02-06 11:56:50).
But the machine still uses the project preferences. The log tells me:

07-Feb-2009 10:05:54 [---] Contacting account manager at http://bam.boincstats.com/
07-Feb-2009 10:05:55 [---] Account manager: BAM! User-ID: xxxx

07-Feb-2009 10:05:55 [---] Account manager contact succeeded
07-Feb-2009 10:05:55 [---] General prefs: from Enigma@Home (last modified 13-Jan-2009 17:39:02)
07-Feb-2009 10:05:55 [---] Computer location: New:
07-Feb-2009 10:05:55 [---] General prefs: no separate prefs for New:; using your defaults
07-Feb-2009 10:05:55 [---] Preferences limit memory usage when active to 376.55MB
07-Feb-2009 10:05:55 [---] Preferences limit memory usage when idle to 451.86MB
07-Feb-2009 10:05:55 [---] Preferences limit disk usage to 4.00GB

So I guess I have to give my BAM-preferences a name that Enigma (and other projects) understands?

As described in the preferences only "home", "work" und "school" (in lower case!) are supported by projects.

It seems that you named the preference "New:".

Yeah, I saw that but didn't know what to conclude from it, as I haven't set the host to a specific venue. Plus the project listed "Computing preferences" und separate preferences for home/school/work. That seemed to me as if there were global or general preferences besides those specefic locations.
Anyway, as I don't need seperate profiles I will simply set all settings to "home" so that they match (or so)

Thanks,
Carter

Hi,

Are host-specific preferences written to the projects? I have not set any different locations - only a 'Default' work preference in BAM and in all the projects. However, I have set host-specific preferences individually for both my hosts in BAM.

Now whenever I sync my host with BAM, it takes the correct host-specific preferences, but goes back to the 'Default' setting almost immediately after syncing with the other projects. Below is a log of what happens:

09/28/09 23:40:21 Preferences limit memory usage when idle to 2301.68MB
09/28/09 23:40:21 Preferences limit disk usage to 2.46GB
09/28/09 23:40:27 Suspending network activity - user request

At this stage the preferences loaded are the host-specific preferences set in BAM.

09/28/09 23:44:08 Preferences limit disk usage to 2.46GB

Now, I have no idea why 'Default' work preferences are loaded, even though they are older than the host-specific preferences. What am I doing incorrectly? Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Suneet

have you tried to clear the local preferences on your host?

if you change anything via your local boinc-client, the settings made in BAM! will work no longer.

Yes - already tried that as the first step. I have cleared all local settings in the BOINC hosts. As seen in the message log, the BOINC host defaults to an older set of preferences after syncing with any of the attached projects. My settings in BAM are as follows:

    1. Work Preferences - only one 'Default' location preference is set with unlimited Internet usage
    2. Host Location - all hosts are set to the 'Default' location (as there is only one location preference set)
    3. Host-specific Preferences - these are set specifically for each host with Internet usage timings individually restricted for each host

After syncing to BAM, the BOINC host preferences change as follows:

    1. Host-specific preferences are loaded immediately after syncing with BAM
    2. BOINC host then initiates sync processes with the attached projects
    3. After syncing with a project, the BOINC host reverts to the 'Default' preference set, rather than the host-specific preference set
    4. This is apparently because the host location is set as 'Default' in BAM

My query is that if the BOINC host follows location-based preferences (i.e. reverts to the 'Default' location), then how do host-based preferences in BAM work? I am using v6.6.36 on BOINC.

Thanks,
Suneet
