OK Sid now you have me utterly confused....you told JonBoy not to sign up for rice but on a P4 rice is the fastest? So we should run rice?

JR:

'Rice' will run 8 hours on *any* machine, a P4 or a fast C2D or quad. . . more individual points will be given to the more muscular computers.

Most other WCG WU's run around 4 hours on faster computers, 10-12 on a P4 or less.

. . . hope that makes sense.

Trying to give us the most results right?

Results returned is the goal.

So C2D and P4 needs different projects?

Basically. . . I run a Q6600 and a C2D 6700 on 'cancer' for the points and the competition, I run a P4 just for gravy.

Oh and the link you gave doesn't work....just sends me to my acct page

Sorry, learning here, it worked for me [naturally].

JR:

You've got it:

P4's or less = Rice

Later model computers = anything but Rice.

Hmmmm what a strange way to run a project......on my account page it says it is doing a statistical update so there is no way I see to change any preferences while this is in progress...ie: resource share, project preference....etc. Am I wrong? Am I missing something?

JR:

WCG updates it's stats twice a day: midnight and noon [UTC] and access to most information is down during that time.

. . . the one at noon takes about an hour- hour and 1/2 or so, since it only deals with the individual stats.

. . . the one at midnight takes about 2 1/2 hours since it does both individual and team reports.

From this thread on WCG:.

World Community Grid is very excited that very soon the number of Results Returned from member computers will reach 200,000,000. This means that since the launch of World Community Grid, every second of every minute, approximately 2 to 3 results are returned to World Community Grid from our members to help humanity.

A very sincere THANK YOU goes to you, the World Community Grid volunteers. Your contributions are helping to make a significant difference in the way researchers are finding solutions to benefit humanity.

To celebrate the 200,000,000 result event, A Team Challenge has been started: THE 200 MILLIONTH RESULT RACE

In addition, we are going to do the following:

1. The member who returns the 200 millionth result will receive a World Community Grid t-shirt and a Thank You certificate.

2. If the member who returns the 200 millionth result is part of a team, the team captain of that team will also receive a World Community Grid t-shirt and a Thank You certificate for their assistance in rallying support.

3. The team captain of the team that wins “THE 200 MILLIONTH RESULT RACE” challenge will receive a World Community Grid t-shirt and a Thank You certificate for their assistance in rallying support.

4. The member name of the winners will be posted on this thread unless they wish to remain anonymous.

Since Sid fell asleep, here is an update.

Depending on which page you look we are currently at rank 20 or rank 18.

I say, nice position since we entered very late (my bad ). There are a few days left before the next PrimeGrid Challenge so let's make the best out of this.
Please do not PM, IM or email me for support (they will go unread/ignored). Use the forum for support.

ok - so you simply have to stack up about 180 results, hit the right minute to deliver and maybe get willy's new t-shirt..

Willy:

It would be interesting if we had gotten onboard with this challenge from the 1st. . . but many of team BOINCstats were involved in the SIMAP Scramble, and many will go to the PG Challenge Thursday night.

This one was for the practice anyway. . .

World Community Grid is excited to announce that the 200,000,000th result was returned on August 20th, 2008 at 17:00:55 UTC!

This is a huge achievement made possible only by the generous contribution of computer time from our members. We sincerely appreciate your involvement in the science and research that is being performed at World Community Grid.

We still have a few days left to go in the 200,000,000 Team Challenge. Once that challenge is complete we will award the prize in that competition.

In addition to crossing the 200,000,000 results level, we also crossed the 180,000 years of run time returned. This means that each of those 200,000,000 results has averaged a run time of 7.9 hours.

More . . .

Congrats on your strong placing!

I do find it odd however, that Team Canada didn't make the list at all. We are usually quite prominent in the WCG standings. For example for the Christmas challenge we are sitting second behind only the powerhouse that is L'Alliance Francophone.

:edit: I guess you have to join to play Team Captain seemed to have missed that one.

Don't you love it when you answer your own forum question minutes after posting?
