I'm with Bobby I run SETI and CPDN. I run them because most of the time my computers are just sitting there. But I would be lying if I said I did not care about the stats.

I wanted to work out how long it gonna take to get to 1,000,000 credits... so I could set a timer on my 'puters to remember to turn them off. At my current rate, its gonna be in 5.5 years time :-(

I think people need to realize that everyone is doing this for a different reason. The science geeks need to understand that if it were not for the competive people out there, the project would not be as far along. If the project co-ordinators want to keep the same level of participation, or increase it, they need to be concerned with the entire user bases issues. The science geek really dont have any since they do it just to do it. I also think that the science geek group is rather small compared to the overall group.

tghunt - spot on! My reasons have changed several times over the last 6 years of participation... I am top 2000 in 3 projects: SETI for competition, CPDN to support the UK and Einstein because the science is cool! Whatever the reson, but CPU's are being put to great use... so all reasons for participating are valid, and should be supported!!! Oh yeah, and another reason I do BOINC (in general) - I love the challenge of making the *most* optimised AMD64 client!!!

@ziggy Like you I just figured out it will take me 6.9 yrs on my 3.4 GHz. My comp will self distruct before then and I will buy a 300.2 GHz (or something). The race never ends.

We had this problems on 2 comps out of about 20: High load from other applications caused CPDN to finish the job with a client error. We detached them and attached to other projects.

Figure out, how many credits your cpu will make per hour. It's 6800 credits. 800 hours with my 1,8 GHz Intel

@CoM: sometimes if you have a backup you can restore it and continue to work on that WU. See also the forum of CPDN.
