2009-08-05: Ramsey@Home - Still working! New Collaborators - Ben Ferenchak.
I'm still here guys! Ben Ferenchak, a student at Widener University, PA, and some of his fellow classmates are collaborating with me on the new direction of this project. I'm very excited to have their assistance in working out some of the mathematics and CUDA development we hope to do. As of now we are still brushing up on our group theory, developing small test applications, and corresponding with Dr. Exoo who has been a great source of information and promising leads. We're still fairly far away from an alpha test but please stay tuned! Thanks everyone!

2009-07-21: Ramsey@Home - This is taking forever! :)
Sorry this is taking so long everyone. I've finally started working again, I'm finally starting to get real job interviews, and the new direction of this project is rather demanding in terms of mathematics I'm unfamiliar with. So those are the reasons that it will take a while to get the next iteration going. Please be patient! I really appreciate it! Thanks.

2009-07-11: Ramsey@Home - I'm back!
I'm back from my trip so hopefully I'll be able to sit down and pound through a few of these papers this week. As soon as I understand them well enough, I'll be implementing us a new app. On a side note, I may have a few collaborators helping me with a CUDA app so stay tuned for news on that. Thanks Guys!

2009-07-01: Ramsey@Home - I will be gone for a week. Still working on new implementation
I'm going to be gone for a week (until the 10th) so if anything goes wrong with the server it won't be fixed until then. I've started investigating new algorithms and approaches and I think I've decided on one but it's going to take me awhile longer to implement it so please hold tight! Thanks guys!

2009-06-21: Ramsey@Home - New Direction Needed
Our result turned out a bit short of the current known lower bound, so I believe that the project will have to switch directions... I'm currently looking into a few different things and I'll let everyone know once I choose one. Thanks guys!

2009-06-13: Ramsey@Home - Email working finally, First lower bound almost found!
I think I finally got the email server working correctly, so if you received a bunch of emails from ramsey lately, sorry about that. Also, thank you so much to everyone who crunched in the past month, it really means a lot to me. We're only ~170 WUs away from a new lower bound!! Wooo! It's taken 1.5 years but we fianlly made it. Pretty exciting. Thanks again everyone! As soon as the last wu is returned I'll have 10,000 more wus for you guys. Have a good one.

2009-05-29: Ramsey@Home - Main app running/RamseyTest being killed in a few days. Please Switch asap! Thanks!
I've restarted the main project and am planning on killing and deleting ramseyTest within the next few days and testing out apps using boinc's built-in beta testing functionality instead. Crunch on!

2009-05-26: Ramsey@Home - New ramseyTest server - http://www.ramseyathome.com/ramseyTest. Help test if you'd like!
There is now a 'ramseyTest' project running on which I will put all the new apps before releasing them on Ramsey. Anyone who feels like testing my app changes should connect and crunch a few - try to test the checkpointing as much as possible, that is, close and restart boinc a few times during WU execution. Right now there is only a win86 app on there but if people ask for it I can put a linux86 version up too. Thanks guys!

2009-05-24: Ramsey@Home - Checkpointing Errors, project down for a few days. Stop work immediately if possible.
Total bummer guys - my new checkpointing code had a bug (that I swear I checked for...) that caused restarted WUs to diverge from completed-at-once WUs. I can no longer trust any of my results so I am canceling all workunits. Please stop cruching asap as you will not recieve credit. It is an easy bug to fix but I'm going to take a few days and test my app a bit more to make sure this doesn't happen again. Sorry guys!

2009-05-14: Ramsey@Home - I fixed it!
I fixed it!

2009-05-13: Ramsey@Home - Slight Change - Start up at 2:00PM Today!
So it turns out I have today off and have to work tomorrow so I'm changing the start time to 2:00PM Central Standard Today, May 13. If anyone has any issues with this please email me at nickelbob@yahoo.com or PM me ASAP. Thanks!

2009-05-12: Ramsey@Home - Ready! Public Test Thursday May 14 at 12:00PM Central Standard
I'll be turning on the server Thursday at 12PM Central Standard Time - that's -6:00 GMT. I'm sure something will go wrong so I'm calling this a Public Test. Please post on the forums if you notice anything odd. Finally!! Woooo! Thanks Guys!

2009-05-11: Ramsey@Home - Almost Ready!
I'm almost there guys and gals - I just need to do a little work on an assimilator and a bit more testing and I'll be ready. Look for maybe a public test end of this week or the beginning of next. Have a good one!

2009-04-30: Ramsey@Home - Getting there...
I've got the client app running on win86, win64, linux86, and linux64. Also, I have all the input files(10 million of them :) ) and am currently uploading them to the server. So all I have to do before we get this show back on the road is write a work generator, slightly modify a validator, write a simple assimilator and do some testing. O ya, and get some mac apps running. Stay tuned guys!

2009-04-20: Ramsey@Home - I'm back!
I'm back from my trip, which was beautiful, and I'm ready to start ramsey back up again. I've got a CUDA app up and running but it needs some attention before I can release it. After that's done I'll be working on the main app. Thanks for sticking around if you're still here :)! Later! P.S. sorry for the downtime, I couldn't pay to have the server up while I was gone.

2009-02-20: Ramsey@Home - I am unable to find a job, so Ramsey will be delayed again... Sorry!
So, since I can't seem to find a job I've decided to join my brother hitchhiking across the southwest United States for 2-3 months. Unfortunately this means that Ramsey will again be delayed... I am truly sorry everyone! The good news is that I should have a working version of the client by the end of next week, and perhaps a server deamon or two (perhaps I'll post them just to prove it to everyone :) ). The server will probably have to be shut down while I'm away, but I am still planning on restarting it when I get back, so, although I am completely sick of telling everyone this, please stay tuned!! Thanks guys!

2009-02-07: Ramsey@Home - Implementing...
Hey all, I've started implementing the new programs and it's coming along pretty well. Hopefully I'll have some sort of alpha test by the end of this month. Sorry for the long wait!

2009-01-06: Ramsey@Home - Happy Holidays!/We're working on it!
I hope you all had great holidays. Dr. Furcy and I are making progress on the new application - we hope to settle definitively on a new direction by the end of this month, and then I will begin implementing it. Stay tuned guys! Thanks!

2008-12-05: Ramsey@Home - I'm still alive! Except now I have a diploma!
Hey Everyone, long time no see! My college career is finally coming to an end next week and then I'll be spending most of my time on Ramsey@Home. A computer science professor I initially worked on this project with (Dr. Furcy) has expressed a very strong interest in helping me with the new app, so hopefully with his help we can get this project back up and running by the end of January. Please stay tuned for further anouncements! Thanks!

2008-10-13: Ramsey@Home - Please visit the forums! Important Message!
Please read the thread entitled 'Project Changes - Please Read' in the forums. The project is taking a very different direction. Thanks!

2008-10-07: Ramsey@Home - 1.16 App/Source Out - Longer Wus, Credit Readjustment Soon
Version 1.16 apps and source are out (Thanks to Jedirock for help on the OSX versions!!), along with much bigger WUs (it had to happen sometime :) ). I'm sure the credits will still be too low or too high, so expect a slight change in them as well in the coming days. I'll try out the new validator tomorrow, so If you don't have 1.14 or later, please update asap as wus from earlier versions will not validate. Thanks guys!

2008-10-05: Ramsey@Home - Source code out!
Source code for the app is now on the main page. If anyone is interested in publicly distributing their optimized version, please let me know and I'll whip up a page to put them on. I'm still working on my version, so hold tight! Thanks!

2008-09-30: Ramsey@Home - Linux 64 done, Source this weekend
Got the Linux 64-bit version out and it seems to be working fine. I'm going to need a bit before I can release the client source. Right now the amount of work done is specified in the source - which needs to change before I hand it out. Not that I don't trust you guys :). So I'll probably get to that this weekend.

2008-09-29: Ramsey@Home - DB good to go, 64 linux on the way.
The MySQL server is now running on my Vista Quad AMD 2.8GHZ with 8GB of RAM so it should be running smoothly now. Working on 64-bit linux app and the subversion server. Thanks guys!

2008-09-28: Ramsey@Home - DB/FastCGI/Linuc 64-bit issues :). Open source as well
Rough times guys, I'm still not able to get my server to use a MySQL server on a different box, and FastCGI seemed to be causing a lot of errors so I turned it off. I'm also working on getting on 64-bit linux app working, but I've got two tests this week so I can't promise anything before this coming weekend. Sorry everyone! Also, I'm thinking about distributing the source code for the application so that people can modify it.

2008-09-22: Ramsey@Home - DB Issues
Sorry Everyone, I'm having somewhat severe DB issues so the server will be spotty until I manager to setup a seperate PC to host my DB on. Plus I need to go grocery shopping and do laundry :). Please be patient! Thanks.

2008-09-20: Ramsey@Home - Linux 32-bit and PPC/Intel OSX apps good to go.
I've uploaded the (hopefully) fully operational linux and OSX apps - thanks again to Crunch3r and Augustine for the help with building these apps!

2008-09-19: Ramsey@Home - MySQL server overloaded, OSX, Linux app coming.
I've been having some mysql issues lately. I think the server is a bit overloaded, so I'm going to be working on skimming it down a bit and maybe putting it on a different computer. So if the server is down, don't panic :), it shouldn't be down for long. Also, Crunch3r has volunteered to help me get an OSX version running, and I should be able to recompile the linux app tomorrow, so look forward to that. Thanks!

2008-09-15: Ramsey@Home - Logo Vote Ending 9-28. Please Vote Now!!
The Logo vote will end next week Sunday, September 28th at noon Central Standard Time. If you haven't already, please take a few seconds and check out the awesome entries!

2008-09-14: Ramsey@Home - Linux version on the way, Can anyone help with Mac?
I'm starting to try to compile the application for linux, so hopefully I can get a version of that out by the end of next weekend. I'm also looking for help compiling a Mac version, so if you have some spare time and some spare knowledge, let me know in the forums. Thanks!

2008-09-03: Ramsey@Home - Server stable, New Logo Vote Continues!
I believe I sorted out all the problems with the new validator and the old work generator. I also got a new router, which is functioning beautifully, so I can finally put some energy towards linux, OSX, and Windows x64 apps. So keep a look out for those. Also, if you have not voted for our new logo, please do so in the forums! Cori and Rebirther really pulled out the stops with their submissions. Let's let them know how much we appreciate it! Thanks!

2008-09-02: Ramsey@Home - Server outages, New Router!
My new validator and work generator are causing problems, so the server will be sporadic in the coming days. I'll be getting a new router tonight, so hopefully that will solve those problems :). Thanks for crunching!

2008-09-01: Ramsey@Home - 1 Million Credits!!
We handed out the 1 millionth credit today! Congrats Crunchers!

2008-08-24: Ramsey@Home - Router issues
Sorry everyone, for some reason my main router has been dropping my connection sporatically until I manually unplug it for 5ish seconds. That's why the server has been kind of spotty. Sorry! Hopefully I can figure out what the problem is soon. Thanks.

2008-08-19: Ramsey@Home - Server OK, 64-bit Windows Done
I believe I fixed the issues with the work generator, so the server should be good to go for awhile. I also realized that building a 64-bit windows version of the application was trivial, so we got one of those now! Hope you dig it.

2008-08-18: Ramsey@Home - Work Generator Problem
I noticed that my work generator was failing for some reason, so the server may be a litle sketchy until I figure it out. Sorry!

2008-08-16: Ramsey@Home - Web site issues, Server start within the hour!
After updating the server software last night, I forgot to check the web site, so that's why it looked funny for a few hours :). I'm ready to start the server so hopefully everything will go at least somewhat smoothly. I'm also planning on typing up a semi-detailed description of what my software does, so if anyone is interested please watch for that within the coming days. Thanks for crunching! P.S. After that I'll be working on the mail server again.

2008-08-16: Ramsey@Home - Slight WU problem, Smooth otherwise.
I've been notified by some users that in order to get WUs, you must detach and then reattach. This is because I am using a new code signing key (keeps people from hijacking the server and distributing malicious code). So if you are having problems getting WUs, this is why. Other than that this day has been going very smoothly! I'm working on the description of the application, and a page that will show how close we are to a new lower bound. Thanks everyone!

2008-08-14: Ramsey@Home - Long downtime, Alpha on Saturday!
Sorry about the long downtime, I got caught in between a move and a vacation with no time to get the server back up, but I'm back now, and I'm ready to release the alpha this weekend. I'm going to retest it tonight and tomorrow just to make sure, then release it Saturday. Should be exciting! Thanks for sticking with the project!

2008-08-01: Ramsey@Home - Mail server issues, Alpha Test Soon, Downtime within next few weeks.
I've been trying to get the email functionality of BOINC (the server software) working, but so far, to no avail. Hopefully I can do so before our release date late this month. On the brighter side, I've got a slightly buggy client-side app running on my development server, and a slightly buggy work generator generating work for it. So If all goes well I'll be alpha testing it on my school's computer's before the end of next week. Finally, I will moving sometime within the next few weeks so the website will be down for at least a day. Hopefully this inconveniences no one. Thanks!

2008-07-20: Ramsey@Home - Cron Jobs Fixed, Data Loss!!
I realized that I had forgotten to add some cron jobs and that's why the user of the day and the forums were hardly ever getting updated. It should be fixed now. On a more depressing note, I accidently fried my old hard drive with all my recent work on it. While this shouldn't change the start date of the project it has made me much busier! I am in the process of rewriting the client app I had running a week ago, and also researching the possiblity of getting the information off the fried drive. If anyone has any experience in the area, please let me know on the forums or email me at nickelbob@yahoo.com. Thanks!

2008-07-07: Ramsey@Home - Get the WUs out/Hiatus Continues
From 8-4:30 Central Time today, I will be turning the server back on so that people can get rid of the workunits still in their queues from the unsuccessful test last week. I also have had a little time to try to debug the brute force app, although I'm still having problems, so the hiatus is still on! Sorry! Also -- how is the font size for everyone? Too small? Let me know in the forums. Thanks!

2008-07-05: Ramsey@Home - Problems with server and workunits
Over the past few weeks I've been through the most difficult BOINC install ever, but I believe I'm finally nearing the end. For some reason the workunits that worked find on the private server are causing errors and memory leaks... not good. I should be able to iron out these issues this week and get the alpha running by next week. Thank you all for being so patient and thanks to those who have signed up already, and sorry for the delay.

2008-07-05: Ramsey@Home - Problems linked to .NET, Project back on hiatus until late August, Sorry!
The problem people were having with the application most likely has to do with the use of a certain library and the fact that I wrote the app using the .NET framework which some people do not have. This may result in the project being put on haitus until late August when the true algorithm is ready. I simply do not have the time to rewrite the brute force program, so unless I can figure out an easy way to compile my C# code (maybe Mono?) in a way that will work for everyone the project will have to wait until late august. I appreciate everyone's positive response to the project so far, and I can't wait until we go public. Cheers.

2008-06-19: Ramsey@Home - Alpha Release Within Next Few Weeks
It has been decided that in the interests of creating a solid userbase for this project, we will release an alpha version of our application within the next few weeks. The application is a simple brute force R(5,5) finder, and has been running on a private server for the last 3 months. This will help get the project some name recognition so that by August we will have generated some interest and, hopefully, users to help us break in the algorithm currently under development.
