2006-11-21: World Community Grid - The Genome Comparison project has been launched
World Community Grid is pleased to launch the Genome Comparison project by Fiocruz in Brazil. This project will perform a pairwise comparison between all predicted proteins in complete genomes available in the public DNA databases. When scientists study a new protein, they look for similar, better-understood proteins as a guide to their function. This in combination with other information will help annotate these genomes leading to faster and better understanding of cellular function and infectious agent relationships. This is the fifth project that World Community Grid has launched. We invite you to come help us crunch Genome Comparison along with our continuing projects: FightAIDS@Home, Help Defeat Cancer and Human Proteome Folding - Phase 2.

2006-09-07: World Community Grid - FightAIDS@Home Graphics Beta Test
We have launched our first official beta test. We are testing the graphics for FightAIDS@Home. The science application itself is the same as the science application running in the official FightAIDS@Home project. However, we are running this test to make sure that we do not introduce any new errors into the application. The graphics are available on the Windows platform only. We will be running 500 workunits through and if we are satisfied that it is running well then we will release this to the general public. You can check to see if you are signed up to contribue to the BOINC beta testing by visiting this page: https://secure.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/device/viewBetaProfiles.do There will be a seperate 'project' statistics page that will show how much run time, points and results have been returned for the beta test. All time you earn for the beta test will be credited to you in the same way that any other project is credited to you.

2006-07-27: World Community Grid - Congratulations members - 50,000 years of runtime!
World Community Grid would like to thank our members for your generous donation of computer time. We recently crossed 50,000 years of run time. This has allowed valuable scientific work to be performed. We still need plenty more computer time. The Help Defeat Cancer project has recently been launched and the FightAIDS@Home and Human Proteome Folding – Phase 2 projects still need your help!

2006-07-20: World Community Grid - The Help Defeat Cancer project has been launched
World Community Grid and The Cancer Institute of New Jersey, Rutgers University and UMDNJ - Robert Wood Johnson Medical School will be examining Tissue Microarrays to determine how to improve the treatment of cancer with earlier and more targeted diagnostic tools. You can read more information at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/projects_showcase/viewHdcResearch.do

2006-06-23: World Community Grid - The Human Proteome Folding - Phase 2 project has been launched
Human Proteome Folding Phase 2 (HPF2) continues where the first phase left off. The two main objectives of the project are to: 1) obtain higher resolution structures for specific human proteins and pathogen proteins and 2) further explore the limits of protein structure prediction by further developing Rosetta software structure prediction. Thus, the project will address two very important parallel imperatives, one biological and one biophysical. You can read more information at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/projects_showcase/viewHpf2Research.do

2006-06-21: World Community Grid - The Human Proteome Folding - Phase 1 project has finished. FightAIDS@Home is still running.
Sometime today, we will have sent out the last new work units to process for the Human Proteome Folding (HPF1) project. You should let agents still working on HPF1 finish their current work unit. This represents a monumental computing accomplishment and we thank the entire membership for your generous contribution. This has brought valuable data and possibilities into the horizon of the scientist's plans, which would have been ruled out as completely impractical before you all came along to help. The next steps are a lot of post processing of the result data, populating the results database, writing papers, etc. Dr. Rich Bonneau will fill you in on progress with all of this. We still need your contribution! We will be launching the Human Proteome Folding 2 project soon and in the near future several other exciting projects. In the meantime the FightAIDS@Home project is still processing a mountain of work so keep those machines crunching. Thank you! Read more about this at http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread?thread=7613
