Unfortunately, the project is down, or rather the network or firewall is down and I won't have physical access to it until Tue or Wed at the earliest.

The server crashed this morning leaving the MySQL innodb tables in a corrupted state. The log files were also corrupted. Since MySQL can't even start, repair is out of the question. (Why can't it start and make the corrupted database unavailable so that one can drop it and then restore instead of wiping out the entire innodb installation and starting from scratch? Gotta love freeware.) The good news is that the database backups ran just a short while prior to the crash. A replacement server was purchased and already in the process of being configured so rather than restore to the existing [flaky] server, it will be restored to the new server. The bad news is that it will take a few days, and, if I can't get it all configured and up and running by Tuesday, Collatz may be down for another week or more due to other obligations.

Any update on Collatz? I've got tons of results that are in jeopardy of being reported late.

I don't think the deadline should be a problem, as probably nobody will get her results back in time. They will not look for it after they get the server online. But it will be a nice stress-test for the server once it's running

Re Update ..... don't worry, he's excellent over that kind of thing, he will automatically grant all the extra time needed to return results as it was not your fault.

Hi Slicker,

If you need any help, please let me know. I am probably about 20 miles from where I think you live. If you need an extra body to help out, please let me know. I am not a programmer but can help with the hardware and maybe anything else you might need.

The good news is that the new server is up and running. The bad news is that there were a few hours between the database backup and the database crash. I used the total credit and RAC from the stats dump files for user, host, and team so those should be within a couple hours of the crash. Unfortunately, the server has no knowledge of any WUs sent between the backup and the crash so I have a feeling that those won't be accepted. I can't reverse engineer the data since I don't know which hosts have which WUs. If a missing result record gets created when the WU is returned, it won't be a problem, but I don't think the BOINC server code has the logic in it to do that.

As a lot of WUs are sent again because of missed deadline, it's good if those with their computers in direct access could update the project from time to time manually, as a lot of the new WUs are superfluous once the original cruncher reports them. That could take some time because of the increasing time delay after contacts in vain.

I've got 13 WUs cancelled by the server because they were already validated. It would be a shame to waste the crunchtime for useless recrunching of old WUs.

Murphy's Law... Yes, the project is down and I am out of town until later today. Can't ping or log on to the server remotely but other machines are operating OK so it looks to be hardware related. My guess is either drive or drive controller but I won't know until later today or tomorrow.

The Collatz project has been up for a while and the stats appear to be showing up here, but the status here shows it as offline and users attempting to create/import in accounts via BAM! are not able to as it reports the project is down. Any ideas why that is happening when the stats updates are working OK?

Looks like the "cat sitter" has failed to keep the server up and running.....

I think the server WAS the cat sitter Poor kitty. I'm guessing it's either half alive or half dead until Slicker looks.
